It all started with a test. Not the test that you would think, but this test mattered more to me. I sat in the bright white doctor’s office, waiting with my mother who was a foot away. My hands started to shake like I was a chihuahua and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The next thing I knew is that the overbearing female doctor was busting into the small room with a shocked expression. I looked up at her, worried for what was about to happen. She explained to me, that through the test, I had more sugar in my blood then I was supposed to. This meant I had some type of Diabetes, that I, however, didn’t understand until a few weeks later. Flash forward to those weeks after that appointment, I was officially diagnosed with Diabetes type one. This weighed heavy on me because I never expected me of all people to get it. Shots of insulin and blood sugar checks became a daily thing for me. I felt the world come crashing down like I was Simon from Love Simon. I was terrified for what my life was and what will be now that its out. I have Diabetes type one. Boom! My life was changed just like that. One day I was sitting at a job interview worried about getting the job and the next moment, I am in the doctor’s office figuring out how to inject myself with insulin. Life is crazy like that.
